Year 6 camp adventures

By Brittany Carrington Year 6 Coordinator March 6, 2024

Packed with enriching experiences and unforgettable moments, Year 6’s camp to Canberra and Jindabyne not only broadened their understanding of Australia’s history and democracy but also offered them the chance to explore the wonders of nature in Kosciuszko National Park.

In Canberra, our students delved into the rich tapestry of Australia’s democratic heritage. They had the unique opportunity to witness Parliament in session, gaining firsthand insights into the workings of our nation’s political system. Engaging in lively discussions, they explored the significance of democracy and its evolution.

One of the highlights of the trip was our visit to the National Electoral Education Centre, where students actively participated in a simulated election to grasp the intricacies of preferential voting. Through this hands-on experience, they gained a deeper understanding of the democratic process and the importance of civic engagement.

The educational adventure continued at Questacon, where our girls were captivated by the interactive exhibits challenging their understanding of the scientific world. From gravity-defying experiments to mind-boggling displays, they were inspired to question, explore, and discover the wonders of science.

After immersing themselves in the cultural and educational delights of Canberra, our students journeyed to Jindabyne, where they embraced the great outdoors. Hiking through the picturesque landscapes of Kosciuszko National Park, they revelled in the beauty of nature and the thrill of adventure. Led by experienced guides, they learned about environmental conservation and the importance of preserving our natural heritage.

The trip culminated in a refreshing swim, offering our students a well-deserved reward for their hard work and enthusiasm throughout the journey. As they splashed and played, bonds were forged, memories were made, and friendships were strengthened.

We are pleased to announce that this year, the Federal Government Parliament Civics Education Rebate subsidised each student’s participation by $30.00. This rebate has already been considered in the Outdoor Education item on your school statement.
